| USEL is successful in obtaining EU funding for employee training > |
|
| USEL in partnership with Shankill Open Learning has been successful in accessing BSP European Funds for two years to deliver accredited training to USEL employees, particularly disabled manufacturing employees, to assist with their personal development, career progression and to provide information and support to explore mainstream employment options.
The funding allows the S.T.E.P (Skill Training for Employment Progression) project to provide the opportunity for employees to acquire accredited training in basic skills in Numeracy and Literacy, confidence building, personal effectiveness, Beginner ICT, CLAIT, and Team Leader skills. A Training and Recruitment Officer will give strong one-to-one support before, during and following training delivered by professional mainstream tutors in order to assist individuals work towards achieving their accreditation.
This will help bridge an existing skill gap experienced by many USEL employees, which prevents movement into mainstream employment. Advice and guidance will also be given to emphasise the opportunities in mainstream employment and to encourage beneficiaries to think of their working lives beyond the security of employment at USEL.The project is likely to have a start date in July 2002 and will end in March 2004. |
